McKay Freelance Walks the Walk

As alumni of the College of Charleston, McKay Freelance has a special appreciation for the upper King St. area and its continuous transformation. Last night at the Upper King Design District's Fall Design Walk, the transformation was all the more obvious. Emerging and existing shops kept their doors open a few hours late to let patrons browse their selection or services with complimentary beverages and tasty hors d'oeuvres.

Some of our favorites: Sarah Maxwell and her unique fabrics and custom designs, the witty sayings from mac & murphy's stationery, the new found knowledge of "sugaring" from Sweet 185 and best of all, Seeking Indigo's East meets West hot spot which combines a custom clothing boutique and wellness center.

What did you love? Share your favorites with us!

Locals Get a 'Taste' of Charleston Delivers

Last Sunday, McKay Freelance represented Charleston Delivers at Boone Hall Plantation's Taste of Charleston. Thousands of locals from around the Lowcountry came out in celebration of their coveted local cuisine and nationally renowned chefs. As "Friends of the Taste", what we found is that Charleston LOVES the idea of a delivery service that offers a timely, convenient solution to their lunch and dinner dilemmas. There was no better forum to educate the community about the services of Charleston Delivers and the response was overwhelmingly positive.

As Charleston Delivers expands, more Mt. Pleasant, James Island and West Ashley restaurants will be added to best serve all of our customers. Please continue to check the website for new restaurants, specials and complete list of services.

If you can order it, we can deliver it!

WTF

Anniversaries are generally a time of reflection, recognition and celebration of growth; however, Charleston Waterkeeper chooses to observe their one-year anniversary a bit differently. Last Wednesday, September 16, 2009, Charleston Waterkeeper launched their Water the Future (WTF) campaign: an invitation to every citizen in the tri-county area to celebrate the importance of our waterways while standing together to see that they are protected.

"The past 12 months have been a soft introduction to the organization and while we have made a great deal of progress, there is still so much that needs to be done, so many people, we need to reach," explains Cyrus Buffum, Executive Director of Charleston Waterkeeper, " When you find out that 100% of our waterways are considered impaired by various forms of pollution, it makes you think 'WTF Charleston'?"

The public is encourage to Water the Future in three different ways:

1. Share photographs of our waterways - the good, the bad and the ugly. In order to stand to protect our waterways, it is first essential for the community to see the two faces of our waterways: the beautiful and the impaired. Submit entries to wtf@charlestonwaterkeeper.org.

2. Join Charleston Waterkeeper by becoming a member. The stronger the community working to improve the quality of our waterways, the greater the impact will be.

3. Spread the word. Water is the common thread that links every individual together throughout our diverse commumities. It is essential that we preserve and protect the quality of our waterways for this generation and for future generations to enjoy.

McKay Announces Support of Charleston Waterkeeper

McKay Freelance is proud to announce our support of local, environmental non-profit organization, Charleston Waterkeeper, promoting community involvement in the public fight to protect clean water. Charleston Waterkeeper, a community watchdog organization that monitors the environmental integrity of navigable waterways and takes action against violators, relies on the support of the public to protect their right to the commons. Water transcends social boundaries - from the fish we eat, to the air we breathe, all people have the common right to clean water and we are obliged by law (1899 U.S. Refuse Act and 1972 EPA Clean Water ACT) to preserve that fundamental right to clean water and to prevent privatization. For more information, or to become involved, visit www.charlestonwaterkeeper.org.
